The Obazde |

The birthplace of "Der Obazde" is here at
Bräustüberl Weihenstephan!
Mrs. Katharina Eisenreich was the
proprietress at "Nährberg" (i.e. "Nutrition Hill") up
until 50 years ago (1920 - 1958). Ever since she first
placed a portion of "Obazd'n" (mixture of cheese, cream,
butter and spices; also called Obazda or Obatzda) on the
table for her guests to snack on whilst playing
sheepshead or tarot card games, it is hard to imagine
any Bavarian beer garden without it. Moreover it has
evolved into one of the classics amongst Bavarian snack
specialities. Even to this very day the industrial
production of Obazd'n takes place exclusively in
Bavaria.
